10 Tips to Make Your Used Car Last Longer

Make Your Used Car Last Longer
Going Down The Used Car Checklist

Keeping a car up and running for years to come is easier in today’s world than ever before. Still, there are some things you can do to ensure your car lasts as long as possible. Here are 10 tips to make your used car last longer!

  1. Maintain – The most obvious way to make your used car last longer is to properly maintain it. The oil and oil filter need changed on a regular basis but don’t forget about the other fluids and filters. Forgetting to change the brake fluid, for example, can lead to a totaled car.
  2. Cool – The oil plays a role in keeping your car cool so be sure to attend to it regularly. The cooling system and coolant level should be maintained as well. If the engine gets too hot, it can literally melt.
  3. Pressure – It can be easy to wave the tires off as something you can attend to later. Even so, make sure the tires are properly inflated. Doing so will increase the car’s fuel economy and offer improved handling and safety.
  4. Warning – Keep an eye on the dashboard warning lights. Catching sight of a warning light or gauge is the easiest way to spot a problem.
  5. Tune Up – Whether it’s a dealership or private mechanic, have your car checked up on every year or so to ensure it’s in proper working order.
  6. Cover – Parking in a garage or under a cover will help preserve your car’s paint, ensuring it looks good on the road for years to come.
  7. Clean – Regularly washing and waxing your car can help slow or completely stop cosmetic damage. Don’t forget the interior!
  8. Drive – Having a lead foot is one way to drive while practicing good driving habits is another. The latter will reduce the amount of wear and tear and fuel used while on the road.
  9. Schedule – Check your owner’s manual for the manufacturer-suggested maintenance schedule. Following it is your best bet to an odometer with six digits.
  10. Inspect – Take a few minutes out of your day to walk around your car. Look for dings, dents, scratches, and other problems. Look closely at the tires and open the hood to see if you can spot any obvious problems.

K-9 Splash Fest is essentially a pool party for dogs and is sponsored by the City of Lubbock Parks and Recreation Department. As you’ve likely guessed, this year’s wet event takes place at Clapp Pool located in Lubbock on August 14th from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Owners and dogs alike can hop into the pool and swim a few laps – just make sure to keep a close eye on your canine! Dogs can compete in three different contests: Diving, Swim Suit Competition, and Retrieving, all of which are incredibly enjoyable to watch. Prizes are awarded in each event.

While dogs get in for free, owners must have proof of their canine’s vaccinations or tags and keep their pets on a leash. Dogs that are overly aggressive or in season will not be admitted to the K-9 Splash Fest event due to safety concerns.

  6. Read the Reports. If you’re getting a CPO car, you’ll have CARFAX reports to look over.
  7. Inspect the Car. Make sure you look at the car yourself for any flaws.
  8. Test Drive. How will you know if you love it if you don’t drive it?
  9. Be Ready to Say No. Sometimes, you just can’t afford a car or have to walk away for a different reason. Prepare yourself.

How to Choose A Road Trip Partner

road trip partnerRoad trips are one of the best options for a summer vacation—but we all know that the people we are road tripping with can influence just how much fun the vacation is. It can be difficult spending a long amount of time in a small car if the person is a snorer—or if they don’t like to alternate driving. To ensure that your next road trip is the best it can be, here is how to choose a road trip partner.

Navigation. A good road trip partner needs to be able to know his or her way around a navigation app. Give them bonus points if they can manage a paper map or atlas, just in case cell phone service isn’t that great where you’re headed.

Conversation. Despite how fun road trips can be, dullness is known to set in at times. While entertainment plays a big role, so does conversation. Choose someone with whom you enjoy conversing. If they know how to make you laugh, sign them up immediately!

Music. A good DJ knows how to read a room, get a feel for the mood and the vibe of the place and spins the right records accordingly. Your road trip partner should possess these same kinds of skills. Match the music to the mood in the room and the scenery outside.

Conflict Resolution. If your road trip partner likes to hold a grudge, leave them at home! While we are not saying you need to enlist the Dalai Lama, you need someone who is chill and who knows how to resolve conflicts when they come up.

In the ingredients that make a rewarding and memorable road trip, the destination is extremely important. The itinerary is also an important. But knowing how to choose a road trip partner is essential!

If you need a vehicle so you can take that epic road trip of your dreams, stop by Pollard Used Cars in Lubbock, TX.

Tips for Proper Car Seat Safety

car seat safetyAs a parent, keeping your child safe in the car is your responsibility. You know you need a car seat. Maybe you already have one. However, you can hear a lot of conflicting things from a lot of different people about car seat safety. How can you be sure that your baby is as safe as possible while riding in the car, especially when faced with the possibility of a car accident? Here are a few tips to ensure that you do everything you can to protect your child.

Don’t put your child in the front seat.

Car seats are made for the back seat, and putting your child in the passenger seat puts them right in front of an air bag in the event of a crash. While air bags are made to protect adults, they can harm a child.

If your child is under a year old or below 22 pounds, have them face the rear.

Infants in their first year of life or any child below 22 pounds should have their car seat situated in a way that allows them to face the rear. If your car seat’s directions differ from this, it will be in the manual, so make sure you read the guidelines that come with your child’s car seat.

Double-check the safety belt and harness.

Both the car seat and your child should be snug, so make sure that the belt is holding the seat tightly in place and its passenger is buckled in with only one finger’s worth of room under the harness.

Children who are too big for a car seat should use a booster seat.

If your child is more than 40 pounds but their knees aren’t long enough to bend over the edge of the seat, they aren’t quite big enough to just wear a seat belt, so employ the use of a booster seat until the seat belt is snug enough.

If you are still concerned about car seat safety, there are most likely local technicians who will inspect your car seat to ensure that it’s properly installed, or possibly even classes at a community center near you for the purpose of teaching new parents how to use a car seat.
